Hilde NIJS categorises her work under an entirely new concept within contemporary art: Infomeric Art. The architecture of her work consists of a network of ‘ongoing series’ carefully subdivided into numbered ‘sections’. With this distinctive art movement, she claims a unique conceptual space in which pure facts and visual power do not exclude, but rather reinforce one another.
The term combines raw 'info' with the Ancient Greek word ‘meris’, meaning 'a personal share' or 'offering'. Infomeric art arises from a profound, artistic investigation of topical and intellectual information, the results of which are transformed into a tangible, visual manifestation ranging from two-dimensional work to spatial installations.
The artwork, installation, or performance resulting from this is the intentional engine that activates the subject matter and makes it insightful for the viewer. On a support of palimpsest, her work unlocks latent, urgent, layered themes and existential questions from contemporary society, philosophy, psychology, science, literature, and art history in an accessible, entirely independent manner. Her work thereby functions as a neutral starting point: it imposes no compelling opinion, but offers a conceptual gift that intrigues the viewer through visual power in an autonomous space in which they can think, filter, and understand in all freedom.
