CONCEPS OF HUMANISM
From the ongoing consistent Series
'HUMAN ENVIRONMENT, INSIDE&OUT'
Hilde NIJS explores the profound interplay between human psychology (inside) and the influence of the external environment (out).
-
The human condition: The work demonstrates that the environment in which we live directly determines our culture, our behaviour, our traits, and our psychological complexes.
-
Mental health: The series shows that the 'environment' is not merely a backdrop, but a crucial factor that has a profound impact on the mental health and well-being of human beings.
-
Existential urgency: The work raises fundamental questions about our survival. Nature and the environment are what sustain and keep us alive; therefore, caring for that environment is not a political choice, but an intrinsic human necessity.
Visual translation: Hilde NIJS translates this abstract, ecological, and existential awareness into powerful, autonomous artworks on paper or canvas, which command the space through their strong visual qualities.

A series of unique contemporary bas-reliefs made from recycled antique glass | 2022
With traces of mastic, from stained glass windows and vitraux that I made over time. My old enamel glass samples, lead, oxide, plexy etc.
Human and their environment! Recycling glass reduces the need to use new raw materials like sand – it sounds hard to believe, but supplies of some types of sand are starting to get low around the world.

'Aspects of the Human Condition'
