3D-PEN SCULPTURES
Myth is all around us.
Not only the Ancient Greek myths survived in arts, literature etc. but actual myths, created in our own society and used like a message that conveyed when an object, image, or phrase becomes associated with a concept and thus take on a symbolic meaning. They have a function in society but they can pose certain dangers when society’s dominant institutions abuse these messages.
The Myth of plastic
One of those myths are the marvels of plastic, the magical substance that is transformed from nature and constantly in a state of metamorphosis. Plastic as a symbol for a new world. We exist in an incredibly replaceable culture. We switch our phones every year for new applications. Even our bodies are plastic, whether for cosmetic or medically plastic can exist as countless different things, in this way it is infinite and transcendessociated with a concept and gets conveying symbolic meaning."The whole world, even life itself, can be plasticized since plastic aortas, arms, legs etc. are manufactured", sayd philosopher Barthes.
Now this myth is overwelmed bij an other story; there is the myth of the growing plastic lake, now bigger than a twentyfold of Belgium that is floating in the big ocean and that becomes the dead of sealife and life on aerth. ©2024 Hilde NIJS
